Last year during the first lockdown, like a lot of people, we had time to reflect on how we were living our lives up to that point (read more HERE). Life should be an active pursuit and without being mindful we can become passive observers of our daily routines and habits. By taking time away from our usual lifestyle there was a realisation that we could make some small improvements and increase the quality of our lives marginally. But sometimes these small gains aren’t enough, especially if the seed of a bigger idea has been sown. Sometimes you need a life-changing change. One that doesn’t just turn the page, but starts a new chapter.
For the last 7 years, we have had a private studio over one level of our home here in Shrewsbury. It has not only been a fantastic place to call home for the family but also to welcome our clients and share this special space we created for each and every one of you. So it was an important and daunting decision, that caused more than a few sleepless nights when we decided to put our home up for sale and separate our personal home life from our professional work life.
What we came to realise during our time in lockdown is that we can create an even more inspiring and interesting tattoo studio away from the home. One that is centred solely around the art of tattooing with zero compromises for any liveability aspects. With a focus on taking the welcoming environment that we are known for at UN1TY and pushing it to a whole new level, we’re certain that we can once again achieve a unique look for what a tattoo studio is.
We are in the process of building the new studio as I type this out. Our days spent sorting everything from plumbing to painting. In the evenings, looking over design ideas and refining what will be a completely new experience for anyone visiting UN1TY. Using our forced time away from tattooing we have poured our creative energies into this next chapter. Coming up with a completely new approach for our tattoo studio and one that our clients can look forward to enjoying.
UN1TY will still operate as an appointment-only private studio. The intimate nature of tattooing means that we still want our clients to feel secure in the space we create. We are taking all the best bits from our previous studio and building upon them. Stepping into this new creative space will be an even more immersive and inspiring experience, that reflects our philosophy and approach to tattooing. It will also give us the chance to host more guests and maybe add another tattooer to the UN1TY family.
We’re excited to share the progress with you. It’s going to be a lot of work to get this over the finish line, somewhat like growing pains. But there’s no doubt that it’ll be worth it once we’re open and back to work. An added bonus to all this change is that having the studio separate from the home it will allow us to “switch off” more successfully and enjoy quality family time. Which in turn will increase the focus and productivity at UN1TY. A space created to help people define who they are. Who they are destined to be.
