I have been meaning to sit down and write this blog for a while now. It’s an important one. It sets out my intention for a way of working with certain clients that will push the limits of design and tattooing over a set period of time. It will also provide an intense, testing and ultimately transformative experience for those that see it through.
These projects will take place over a week at UN1TY Tattoo. Where I will work exclusively with a client to create a vision for their body.

My desire to offer this experience is the same as the one that compelled me to pick up a machine and start tattooing in the first place. You see, I didn’t always want to be a tattooer. It wasn’t a calling from a young age or a career I wished to pursue. But this was before I was aware of the changes tattooing made beneath the flesh.
My first tattoo was inspired by the sun over the sea. I got it when I was 18, travelling and surfing, as a reminder of these carefree days. That’s what a tattoo was to me then, a souvenir. Something to take away and look back upon fondly.

It wasn’t until I started getting larger scale work, where I was sitting for days at a time that I began to realise there were subtle changes occurring. Every night after each of these sessions I would struggle to really get off to sleep but instead, lie there in an almost euphoric state whilst my body and mind tried to make sense of what had happened. Relearning each other after the subtle shift. Despite this, I always felt well-rested in the mornings and energised for the day. It’s what I now understand to be feeling empowered.
It’s this feeling of accomplishment, empowerment, conquering of oneself that I wish to share with people as much as the tattoo itself. Of course, this happens in varying degrees each time someone gets tattooed. But there are those who wish to push themselves beyond their limits and that is what this experience will be about.

In a lot of ways, it’s not. My approach to creating the best tattoo I’m capable of will be the same.
However, the whole process will be condensed down into a week. Where the respite for healing and recovery will be reduced until the tattoo is completed. This type of approach is not suitable for much larger scale tattoos (e.g. full-back and both legs) but for certain projects, with certain clients, it will offer a unique experience.

Because you want to test yourself. You want the tattoo to take you into deep waters and find what answers lie beneath the surface. You want an experience with tattooing that makes you question why you even get tattooed.
I have previously taken this approach for clients travelling from overseas or very selected projects from the UK. This is in part because the more days you tattoo consecutively, the less certain you can be on how well such large areas of tattooing will heal. But this is now about the whole experience as much as the tattoo itself.
If you’re interested in this, then you’ll need to come into it with your eyes wide open. With realistic expectations of what is possible and what will be required of you. But most importantly with the understanding that I will be there to assist you and carry you where I can, but you will ultimately be responsible for getting over the finish line. This one is about digging deep.
