It’s been a crazy few weeks, I’ve found myself working consistently with people flying from as far as Canada to visit the UN1TY studio and sitting multiple days to receive their tattoo. It’s such an honour when people make this type of commitment and it pushes me to constantly better myself. In other news, I’ve also been without my computer recently as it needed some repairs carrying out so hence the lack of blog activity.

The first tattoo I’d like to share with you was done on Tefkos who visited from Cyprus to go about blacking out his existing sleeve, a task I often get confronted with. In Tefkos’s case however, the existing tattoo was done to a very high standard and by a very respected and credible tattooer, which isn’t usually the case when doing a cover up. But that’s the thing about our work, once a person leaves the tattoo belongs entirely to them and it now represents who they are to the world. So irrespective of what you or I think of somebody else’s tattoo what really matters is how they feel about it and whether it enhances their life.

We decided in this instance that we would actually keep several lines of the existing tattoo to cut through the sleeve and bring an element of balance to the design on the hand. People often say to me when we’re at the consultation stage of the process that they’re concerned about the amount of black and if it’ll suit them. In my opinion, black suits everyone and it comes down to getting the right design where there’s harmony between black and skin. For some the blacker the better every time whilst others strive for a more subtle approach, what’s important is that the person receiving the tattoo feels confident in what they wear and in Tefkok’s case it certainly suited him better when it was blacker.
